So Let's Talk About the Weather

Hmm, you know mental models based on memories - deceiving, can you believe it. When I lived in Upstate NY my memories are of this sunny state, and green, and woody. But sunny often, alot even. So what does this have to do with the price of umbrellas? I applied these memories to VT; only so far, the model isn't holding. It's mostly cloudy grey without outbreaks of sunshine. I never know how to dress day to day, or even hour to hour. One hour I'm too cold - the next I'm now too hot because I added layers and the sun will display its glory and heat for oh say 15-20mins. I'm used to sun day after day after day. I miss the sun, and it's only summer. Maybe I wouldn't miss the sun so much if my cubby wasn't faced away from the windows. I see the sun at 4:30 in the morning, not when I'm really able to appreciate the glorious rays shining in. No where in the literature does it say that VT weather is like Seattle - it's a Vermonter's little secret I think. The 5 day forcast - can you guess it - I bet you can - that's right - rain and cold with outbreaks of sunshine.

Hey JS,

My eternal optimist is trying to pop up. Sorry. I added your location to my weather faves so I could sympathize or envy occasionally. I won't envy you winter but hey, send me a snowball, Okay? The temp range you've got right now sounds SO MUCH BETTER than the F&(^'n 102 degrees we had today. I was tempted to stand outside my car for 5 min with doors open so it could cool off, but I needed to get in it and home before nature called me back into the freezing a/c. I guess a 10 min drive beat a 5 minute walk.

Did you find time to look up eMachines t3410? I've done more looking and I could have done much worse. Other than the integrated video and sound I think it will be ok. I can even add a DVD-R if the expansion slots aren't all used.

Hugs! And wear lt. blue! It keeps mosquitoes away.

I don't necessarily miss heat you can fry an egg on...I just miss sunshine, but hey maybe I'll get fewer squint lines now :)

I did look it up - if the internal slots are all used, then I think you could get a usb DVD-R, but I may be making that up.

JS, one thing I love about New Mexico, Land of Enchantment, is the relentless sunshine. ALTHOUGH of late, it's gotten ridiculous. We've had no spring rain, our lavender is barely blooming, and the birds, whose songs we adore, are so hungry they're eating the pansies on the deck.

It's bad not to be at peace with the weather. My heart goes out to you, there in a new place, wanting to put those roots down. At least your soil must be soft enough to allow some roots to take hold.

Blessings to you and your family...

san: i figure with time the weather and my expectations of it will become more insynch. and people keep saying it's been an unusual year lately in regards to the weather.

but, rain is good, and it stops often enough not to cause over saturation.

It was during my four years in Cambridge/Boston that I got hooked on grey skies and rain. (I think it works both ways.) It took years for me to come to love the relentless blue of Texas skies. Now, I's yearning for a little (a lot, frankly) VT weather to break things up down Texas-way.

murat: I'm slowly letting go of my need for endless days of sun and blue skies. I'm learning to appreciate the clouds here. They're rarely still, though I know neither are Texas skies but it's different. It's a different kind of beauty.
